How Do I Make Disney Cheaper?

How Do I Make Disney Cheaper?

That’s the age-old question, isn’t it? How

As a long-time Disney fanatic, I’ve discovered all kinds of tips and tricks to save as much money as possible on Disney trips. Whether you’re all-in on staying on property for the full Disney experience, or just looking to get your family into the parks without breaking the bank, I’ve got you covered.

Let’s be real, Disney is expensive. It’s magical, yes, but also daunting, exhausting, and a serious investment. I truly believe the experience is worth it if you know how to find a good deal. So let’s talk about the four biggest expenses (and how to save money on each one, of course!)

Hotels

The cheapest option is usually staying off-property, think Airbnb or a budget-friendly hotel. But if you want the on-property magic without the sky-high price, don’t you worry, there are some smart ways to save.

Disney hotel1. Hotel Discounts:
Disney regularly offers hotel deals, often between 20–30% off. If you book early, you can lock in a room and apply the discount later if it becomes available. If you’re flexible, you can even switch to a cheaper resort after the discount drops. I’ve saved hundreds doing this!

2. Swan & Dolphin Hack:
Want deluxe perks without the deluxe price tag? The Swan & Dolphin hotels (which are technically Marriott properties) include extended evening hours usually reserved for Deluxe Disney resorts. Fancy without the full splurge.

3. Off Site:
Beyond the convenience, staying on property includes early park entry and free transportation. Over time, this has become my favorite way to “do Disney.” But yes, I’ve stayed at off-site rentals too, and saved a good chunk of change this way too! Especially when I’m just feeling the itch to take a quick trip to Disney World.

Tickets

Ugh…Probably the most painful line item. Why do they keep getting more expensive!? How can I make Disney cheaper if THIS is what they’re charging for tickets?!!?!

Here’s how to soften the blow:

1. Discounted Sites:
Use trusted sites like Undercover Tourist, which often offer discounted tickets—especially when purchasing 3 or more days. Sometimes, you can find these sites through employers, for example Publix offers discounted tickets to their employees through their discount portal! Lots of companies offer this perk to employees. But fret not, Undercover tourist offers nearly identical savings if you don’t have access to the employer provided sites!

2. Gift Card Hack:
This one’s my holy grail. Use discounted Disney gift cards to pay for tickets, hotels, food—literally everything Disney sells. Target (with a RedCard) gives you 5% off, and they often run promos with additional bonuses through Target Circle. Sam’s Club also sells Disney gift cards at a 5% discount and this can be stacked with credit card cash back! Sam’s Club is also no stranger to offering sales on these cards for 10% off sometimes (with a limit of course). Stack those savings and thank me later. I saved over $1,000 on my last big trip doing just this!

Food

Mickey Waffle

I’m a food girly. Disney snacks are non-negotiable. Mickey waffles? Essential. Paying full price? Absolutely not.

1. Gift Card Hack (Again!):
Use those same discounted gift cards to pay for your meals. Boom—5–10% savings instantly.

2. Bring Your Own Snacks:
Did you know Disney allows outside food and drinks? This is a game-changer, especially with kids. Pack snack bars, sandwiches, sodas—whatever your crew needs. I bring a collapsible water bottle too because you will not catch me paying $5 for a bottle of water! Are they CRAZY?

Transportation

This one’s a little trickier to cut back on, but there are still ways to save.

1. Off-Property? Use Uber/Lyft Gift Cards:
If you’re staying off-site, you’ll likely use rideshare apps. Good news! You can use the gift card trick here too. Target sells Uber and Lyft gift cards, which means

more savings with your RedCard or Circle bonuses.

2. On-Property Perks:
The easiest transportation hack? Stay at a Disney resort that offers free transportation. My personal favorite: Skyliner Resorts (Art of Animation, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera). Not only do you get free rides to and from the parks, you also get to ride the Sky Buckets, which is just a little extra Disney magic.

Whether you’re doing Disney on a tight budget or just want to stretch your dollars further, these hacks can make a hugedifference. With a little planning, You can finagle it to make Disney cheaper and doesn’t break the bank—and it can still be just as magical.
